August 22: Greek Wines, Rooted in Place
This week we are heading to Greece, a country with a long winemaking history and an extraordinary collection of native grapes. Rather than the familiar international varieties, these wines give us a chance to taste grapes that have been grown in Greece for generations and are closely connected to the places they come from.
We will travel from Attica to Santorini, Crete and the Peloponnese, tasting Savatiano, Assyrtiko, Vidiano and Limniona along the way. The styles could not be more different, from crisp, mineral whites to a skin-contact orange wine and a fresh, elegant red, but together they offer a great look at the diversity of modern Greek wine.
2025 Papagiannakos Savatiano Old Vines: $23

An old-vine Savatiano from dry-farmed vineyards in Attica near Athens. Dry and bright, with citrus fruit, refreshing acidity and a clean finish. Pair with grilled fish, seafood, sushi, fresh salads or roast chicken.
