Saturday Wine Tastings

Expert Advice

At Winestone, every bottle earns its place on the shelf. We look for wines with character, balance, and a sense of where they come from, whether it’s a longtime favorite or something new to discover. The result is a shop filled with bottles we genuinely believe in and are excited to recommend.

Join us for our weekly Saturday tastings, where we open a thoughtful lineup of wines and give you a chance to discover something new before you bring it home. It’s casual, welcoming, and a great way to taste through different regions, grapes, and styles with guidance from people who know and love the wines.

Whether you know exactly what you like or have no idea where to start, we’re here to help. Our team knows the bottles on our shelves and loves matching people with wines that fit the moment, the meal, and the budget. No snobbery, no pressure. Just thoughtful guidance and a good bottle to take home.

The Winestone Difference

At Winestone, we want buying wine to feel easy, not intimidating. Our shop is designed differently, but the idea is simple: good wine, thoughtfully chosen, at fair prices. You may not see the same big-name bottles you find everywhere else, and that is intentional. We look for wines with character, balance, and value, and we taste what we buy so we can stand behind what is on the shelf.

What matters most is helping you find the right bottle. Maybe it is for dinner, a gift, a party, or just week night pizza. We are happy to talk through what you like, what you are eating, and what you want to spend. Our team brings years of restaurant and wine experience, but we keep the conversation practical and friendly. We also carry a small, carefully chosen selection of spirits and sake, and if there is something you are looking for, just ask and we'll try to special order it.

"Winestone is a wonderful attitude-free resource. I can walk in hunting the perfect burger wine or pairings for an eight course dinner menu and confidently leave with a great bottle for each course matching my budget. Patrick and his staff are deeply knowledgeable, thoughtful and great to work with. Don’t let the low-key shop exterior fool you-this is a serious place run with a smile."

"We had a wonderful experience at Winstone thanks to Patrick, the owner. He helped select a beautiful variety of wines for my friend’s wedding, and his recommendation of a Sancerre was the best I’ve ever had, it’s now our go-to wine. Patrick is patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. Highly recommend Winstone for both special occasions and everyday favourites.."

July 18: The Grapes of Piedmont

This week we’re heading to Piemonte, one of northern Italy’s most celebrated wine regions and home to some of the country’s most distinctive grapes. Set against the foothills of the Alps, Piemonte is best known for Barolo and Barbaresco, but its story reaches well beyond Nebbiolo.

On Saturday, Jo-Ann, our Italian wine scholar, will guide us through a beautiful range of Piemonte wines. We won’t taste every grape the region has to offer, but we’ll explore many of its classics, from crisp Cortese in Gavi to delicate rosato, elegant Pinot Nero, expressive Nebbiolo and the wonderfully aromatic local grape Ruchè.

It’s a tasting that shows the range of Piemonte: fresh whites, graceful reds, historic estates, local traditions and wines deeply tied to place. Come taste why this region remains one of Italy’s great wine treasures.

2024 Grifo del Quartaro Gavi: $20

A classic white from Piemonte, made from 100% Cortese grown in the village of Gavi itself. Fresh and dry, with pear and apple fruit, a subtle almond note and a smooth, clean finish. Stainless steel fermentation and no oak keep the focus on freshness, purity and balance. A beautiful aperitif and a natural match for seafood, sushi, grilled shrimp or fresh cheeses.

A rare local red from Monferrato, Ruchè is known for its floral aromatics, spice and silky texture. Crivelli’s version is aromatic and elegant, with red cherry, rose petal, white pepper and warm spice. Soft tannins and a smooth, savory finish make it a distinctive but very food-friendly red.

A pale, delicate rosato from one of Barolo’s most beloved family estates, made from 85% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera and 5% Dolcetto. Early-picked fruit, gentle pressing and no malolactic fermentation keep the style light, fragrant and fresh. Look for citrus, strawberry, raspberry, peach and a hint of white pepper.

2025 Vajra Rosa Bella: $20

2020 Castello di Nieve Pinot Nero: $32

A graceful Piemonte Pinot Nero with a fascinating local history in Neive. This is not about copying Burgundy, but about reviving a family tradition around a grape that found a small foothold in Piemonte centuries ago. Light-bodied and elegant, with cherry, cranberry, subtle earth, smoke and delicate tannins.

2024 Starda Langhe Nebbiolo: $23

2024 Crivelli Rouche Di Castagnole Monferrato: $32

A gentler expression of Nebbiolo from sandier, lower-elevation sites around Serraboella and Cà Veja. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in large Slavonian oak, it shows red cherry, dried rose, subtle spice and earthy notes, with classic Nebbiolo freshness and firm but approachable tannins.
